Death – one of the greatest protagonists in art, on stage and in literature – is the only certainty for the living! When it does make an appearance though, relatives are usually overwhelmed and delegate matters to institutions that maintain their existence by reverentially removing people who have become ‘things’ from the world. In Central Europe this is a fairly quiet business, perfectly organised pre and post mortem. In ‘deadline’ forensic medical examiners, cemetery musicians, crematorium employees and other experts talk about their experiences and speculate about their own deaths. There won’t be any famous last words.
