I HAMMER HARD
Name: Hans Jørgen Hamre
Age: 40
District: Unregistered
Nationality: Norwegian
I live on board my boat, sometimes with my son Karl.
I am an educated historian, I work as a life-saving instructor and I am a captain on my own charter-sailboat “The Elephant”.
I belong to the aquatic people, the fathers, the ones who are in motion, the handymen, the ones focused on the whole picture, but I do not belong to the conformists and the career hunters.
I live in Oslo because I have responsibilities. It’s not really my choice. In 10 years time I will ideally live here in summer and in the south seas during winter. The good thing about Oslo is that it is not necessary with a lot of money to have a nice time here.
My relationship with An Enemy of the People comes through teaching it to 10th-graders this spring at Jordal skole. Regarding the saying: «the strongest man in the world is the one standing the most alone», I’d say that the one who can work with others stand stronger. That is the difference between Neanderthals and homo sapiens – that homo sapiens could work together. After all it wasn’t the biggest ape who turned into a human being, but the adaptable ones.
For me a turning-point was when I got my son Karl: I turned away from instant gratification to a more long-term perspective.
I am using our small boat to get to Rådhusbrygge 2. From there we are walking up to the National Theatre
