ON THE NIGHT OF THE PERFORMANCE HE WILL COME TO THE HERODEION ON HIS MOTORBIKE, DRIVING SOUTH FROM MENIDI, TAKING THE KIFISOU AND SYNGROU AVENUES.


Giannis is 38 years old and lives in Menidi. He was born in Larisa, where his family comes from. Apart from Greek, he speaks basic English and he has not travelled abroad in the last year.

As a child he loved sports, and that love lead him to study at the Gymnastics Academy and later, in 1996, gave him a silver medal at the Balkan Games in Niš, Yugoslavia (hammer throw).

He was also a professional weight lifter, but because of severe injuries he was forced to retire and began to work as a trainer for young athletes. Because of his athletic achievements for his country and his international reputation he was entitled to a position in the Greek public sector. So, for the last nine years he works as a correctional officer at the Korydallos Prison in Athens. “When I go to work I wear a mask: Giannis inside the jail has nothing in common with Giannis outside. My body is imprisoned there with the rest of the inmates, but my soul is not. I’m trying to keep a distance from everything that’s happening in there”. In the last couple of years he also developed a love for traditional music.

He sings in different occasions on television, at music stages etc. He especially loves the songs of Stelios Kazantzidis, Stratos Dionysiou and Giannis Parios.

He doesn’t have a clue about ancient drama, but identifies with Kratos from the Prometheus Bound, “because I represent the State and think that an order has to be followed, no matter what”.
