Prometheus in Athens

ON THE NIGHT OF THE PERFORMANCE DIMITRIS GLYKONIKITAS WILL DRIVE TO THE THEATRE WITH HIS CAR.  HE WILL LEAVE FROM AIGALEO TAKING KIFISSOU AVENUE, AND THEN HE WILL TAKE PETROU RALLI TOWARDS THE CENTER.  WHEN HE REACHES PIRAEUS AVENUE, HE WILL TAKE A TURN AT THE PETRALONA LIGHT AND DRIVE TOWARDS THE PHILOPAPPOU PERIPHERAL ROAD.  AT THE END OF THE ROAD HE WILL PARK AND WALK TO THE HERODEION THEATRE.

 

Dimitris Glykonikitas works as an economic consultant in the insurance business.  He has a degree in mechanical engineering from the Piraeus University (T.E.I.).  He is married.  He grew up in Vyronas and is part of the local organization of Nea Dimokratia (right wing party).  For 18 years he worked with his father in their family business, a car repair shop that closed in 2005.  Since, he works as an insurance agent, a business that is not peaking at the moment.  However, he doesn’t miss his previous job, because after some point he got bored.  He reads ancient Greek writers and watches ancient tragedy performances.

He interprets Prometheus as an expression of Christ: “The cross as a symbol exists from ancient Greece; our relationship between the Christian Orthodox and the ancients is direct.  The number 12 for the 12 Gods isn’t there by luck: the Apostles, the months, the cycles of life (each cycle lasts 12 years).”  Politics instigates from ancient Greece: “ Today, the parties are just something new, nevertheless inspired by the ancients.  In the past the ‘inspired’ personalities were headed close to the people who supported them.  Today that’s not the case.  “The opinion of the few is never heard.  I decided to get involved in politics, so I can have personal influence on things.  The crisis is not something new; it has always existed.  The only way to exit the problem is to cultivate independence and develop a productive economy.”

He feels closer to Prometheus: «In the past, such as nowadays the State (Kratos) tried to undermine the mass for the good of the few.  Prometheus tried to help the mass of people.  Today, everyone tries to save himself, but inside him there is always a Prometheus, that appears when one relaxes and gains consciousness.  The goal is to be elevated not condemned.»
