ON THE NIGHT OF THE PERFORMANCE NIKE ROUMBANI WILL WALK ON PANORMOU STREET, CROSS ALEXANDRAS AVENUE IN ORDER TO THE TAKE THE METRO FROM AMBELOKIPI STATION TO  ACROPOLIS.  SHE WILL WALK ON DIONYSIOU AREOPAGITOU AND REACH HERODION THEATRE.

 

Nike Roumbani was born in Athens.  She comes from a 100% Cretan mother and a 100% Arvanite father.  She lives in an apartment in Ambelokipoi with her 94-year-old mother.  She was divorced long ago with her husband-a lawyer, a sovereignty master- and has a 35 year old son-a political scientist.

She studied fine arts in London at the Central School of Art and Design from 1974-1978.  She was pregnant at the time she applied to university and no one wanted to see her portfolio.  She decided to lie in order to get accepted. That was the beginning of her active career and her life dedication to the Lobby of European Women that she’s a founder and volunteer for the past 35 years.  Now she is the president.

The organization deals with racism, poverty and equality.  It is open for men and women because “Violence is a universal case.”  Its basic action is the SOS line where one can call and talk at any time without being exposed.  It’s a victim support mechanism, built to protect and help people who cannot speak in public.

Nike teaches art to the experimental secondary school and educates artists to become teachers.  She uses art as an education device to teach students how to communicate and express themselves through art.  
“I have done a painting with Prometheus.  I feel a strong relation to Prometheus especially in this moment.  I feel someone is eating my liver.  It will grow back.”  Ancient drama feeds the roots of every artist, especially in Greece “ they don’t refer to the ancients as classics for no reason!”
