Theodora Kalatzopoulou was born and raised in Athens. She never had the chance to study. As soon as the Italian-Greek war started she left with her family to the Zagoria Villages, Ioannina, because they felt it was safer there. They suffered from hunger. Just before the civil war began she moved back to Athens. She got married at the age of 17, but she wasn’t very lucky with her marriage, separated and stayed alone with three children. « I thought a woman is born in order to belong to a man, and a man to a woman, but I was fooled. In life two things scared me: separation and suicide. I went through both of them».
She worked as an assistant and stand in at the Karayannis Film Production Company, and in order to survive she had to work out of the city. At some point she worked for the Olympic Airways. They proposed to her a permanent position there but she denied it and found a job at the municipality of Athens.
In any case, she managed to survive economically «without owing anything to anyone». She went through tough times especially after she lost her daughter. From both her sons she has two grandchildren that are studying at the moment, and talks about them proudly. The situation of Greece brings her rage: «I have worked all those years and I know that everyone has fought for an extra pension and now they are cutting down everything. Why don’t they go after those who built villas, but us that worked for 40 years? Why do we live suffocating?». In her free time she takes part at the choir of the Seniors Day Center and she is a member of dance clubs.
She hasn’t read ancient drama and in general she prefers comedies, «because my life is a tragedy». She doesn’t go to theatre very often neither sees TV shows that underestimate the intelligence of the people. She prefers, whenever she has the chance to go to excursions in nature.
She connects with Hermes because he uses logic as a weapon: «He suggests compromise, and cooperation, everything else is a fantasy».
